in response to BORICUA1959...   70% is unemployability that pays you at a 100% rate. But you should write the VA requesting you to be rated unemployable. Now the beauty of this is. You stay at 70% and above and rated unemployable for 3 years or more. The VA will automaticly reevaluate you and classify you 100% disable based on your record of not working while rated unemployable. After you're rated 100% at that point you can go back to work.

in response to RobbieSF...   Tell your counselor what you need to succeed in school. You have to justify what you ask for.

in response to raymichelle2825...   So you got all of those electronics given to you free from the va through voc-rehab? I applied last night for voc-rehab, and I fit all the criteria for approval. What do I need to do to get the laptop, ipad and the extra money? Do they also pay for pre med school, and med school? Thanks!

in response to BORICUA1959...   No, its not the same.
The difference is rate of pay & other benefits such as you get dental if you are 100%. Your children & spouse can get educational benefits if you are 100%.
For more information go to:

in response to essksr21403...   Hi. I'm having the same issues with my disabilty. I need to work at home, but there are sure a shortage of those jobs around. I've been looking for 2 years.I don't qualifly for SSI. The only thing I have been looking into is Disabilty grants. There are many for disabled vets. Go to www.grants.gov or www.accessible.org for info on that. For general SSDI, go to www. SSA.gov. That should take you to the Social Security website. All take time, but are worth the trouble. Good luck.

in response to mrverseetile...   How do you file a claim for unemployability? I am 80% through the VA, my husband is 100%. I am unable to work because of his disability and mine. What do I do?

in response to Anora Eldorath...   That is just horrible for me to hear. My husband is 40%disabled veteran and we have 2 sons and a soon to be son-in-law currently serving. They should in NO WAY be making comments of any kind no matter there age. They should get the best treatment as long as they have served. Hope things get better.

in response to DistressedVet24124...   Although the VA claims "We are turning things around and getting claims handled quicker." They are not! My claim has been in process for 6 years plus. I was able to write my Congressional Senator who on two separate occasions had my situation approved at 20 and a second time an ncrease to 40% and a Cost of Living Allowance to the tune of $9,000. Just showed up in my bank account.

Contact by calling first to your Main Senator. Usually they are pretty good at getting some response going.

Good luck!

in response to DistressedVet24124...   If you were removed from working, ask if you are "unemployable".
Do what I did too...
Pick up a picket sign, call the news, ask for the public affairs rep at your local VA center...demand to know why the mistreatment...
They don't like publicity...

I am so sorry for your predictcament. That is terrible.

May I ask, how did your clinician at mental health remove you from working?

I hope you get approved for your claims & soon.

Best wishes

get help from a group, like DA, PVA  or VFW to handle your claims.. you give them POA to handle your stuff, and believe you me.. they track it and get it DONE!!!! trust me.. 20 years of being in this mix... and still count on them.. also.. periodically call your VA office, normally a 800 number.. poke around, ask questions.. i just found out about being property tax exempt 100% disabled in NC from property taxes.. this came out in 2009.. always call.. and stay current on this stuff!!!!!!

Bubba-

I hope you've found the aid you need! My husband right now is going through a time with the VA because of his age. He is just 32, and the VA officials constantly make snide comments such as "Well, you're just too young". The man served his country, and did his time only to be treated like beneath human each time he goes up to the VA.

I wish you all the blessings!

Anora
